2010-11 Thrashers Fan Face Off!
Last night was one of the favorite (only) big events for the season ticket holders, the Fan Face Off. At this event you can get stuff autographed, meet the team, take pictures, buy used equipment and tour the locker room. My friend David and I head down to meet the Thrashers!
Dan Kamal introduced the coaching staff and then the players. Ramsay says he loves this city!
Bergie slapping hands with Thrash on his way to the stage.
Some of the guys after getting their name called.
Buff tripped a little going up the stairs. I'm guessing Pavelec saw it.
After the team is introduced, you make your way to one of the tables. Of course I had a ton of clever stuff to say and forgot most of it or talked about something else. Each table has about 5 guys at it. I was dying to see Byfuglien, so we went to his table first. At his table was Ben Eager, Ondrej Pavelec, Jim Slater and Anthony Stewart. I brought the matte from a photo to have them sign. I'm going to put a picture from the season in it.
Ben Eager being very cooperative for the camera. I welcomed him to Atlanta.
What up, playa? Anthony Stewart was super nice. I told him I was glad to see him on the team this year. He said thank you.
I was gonna ask Slater how was his wrist, but a million people were asking, so I skipped it.
How about a picture? Pavs says no. To be fair, I'm not sure he heard me.
SWOON! Holy Crap! Dustin was so very nice. And I could squee for days about the glasses. I welcomed him to Atlanta and asked him about his Stanley Cup Ring. He said they were in, but he hadn't gotten his yet. He said he was eager (giggle) to get it.
Hello new wallpaper!
Buff's table had the longest line, we waited forever, then we went over to Johnny Oduya's table. His birthday was October 1 and I made him a birthday card, I wanted to be sure he got it. David had a fabulous idea, when it was too late. I should have gotten all of the other guys to sign Johnny's card then gave it to him! Oh well! At this table was Johnny Oduya, Niclas Bergfors, Zach Bogosian, Boris Valabik and Brent Sopel.
I didn't recognize Bergie with all the hair. I asked him if he was inspired by Thorburn to grow out his hair and he smiled and shook his head. I think he acts like he doesn't understand English to get out of talking to more people. I KNOW he speaks good English.
Zach must have borrowed hair product for Thor...or Hainsey...or Boris. He's signing my frame matte.
Johnny had a pretty fresh looking cut. Word is, he got hit in the face that morning at practice. Not in the face!!! I finally got up to Johnny and said "I know you had a birthday last week, I made you a card." He was very nice and said thank you. He smiled and held it up. This might share some wall paper time with Buff. And for the record, no the card did NOT mention Swedish Hot Chocolate.
There was a mob scene at the next table. Everyone wanted to see Evander Kane. With him at the table were Eric Boulton, Bryan Little, Frederick Modin, and Chris Thorburn.
Not even the first regular season game and Boulton has a shiner.
Super nice guy and new Thrasher, Frederik Modin. He has a birthday on opening night which I'm making a sign for.
I asked Kaner how many copies of the Matt Cooke knock-out he had signed. he said too many to count. He hurried me along.
Bryan Little chatting with Thorburn and moving the fans along. Nice to see you too, Bryan.
Thorburn chatting with Little, discussing something a previous fan said. I tried to make conversation with the two, no luck. They are usually really nice.
After waisting...I mean spending a lot of time in line for Kane, we had two table left and had to hustle! David has a friend getting married who is a big Chicago fan. He had a puck he was getting the Chicago guys to sign as a gift.
Next up was the table with Alex Burmistrov, Nigel DAwes, Christ Mason and Rich Peverley.
Awww, baby Burmie is so cute!
Nigel was friendly.
Chris Mason has the whitest skull in the universe. Like seriously you could put him in a light house and he could guide ships. I welcomed him to the city and told him I'd been a fan since Nashville.
I talked to Pevs, too but the pic was blurry. We discussed how crazy that Nashville trip was in the blizzard. I said if I had it to do over, I wasn't sure if I would. He looked a little hurt, lol.
We were hustling over to the last table of the night!
I told Nik that with him and Hainsey at this table together, it by far had the best hair in the building. He laughed and blushed a little.
I guess Toby was mad I didn't compliment his hair.
New Thrasher and cutest sweetest thing ever, Freddy Meyer. I welcomed him to Atlanta. I'd like to REALLY welcome him.
Last but not least, though not very warm towards the end of the night, Andrew Ladd.
Even though my Moose wasn't there, it was a fabulous event.
A little soap box speech...if you meet a hockey player (or anyone really) and they don't bend over backwards to be nice, don't chalk it up to them being an asshole. How would you like to be judged on one encounter. Give them another shot. I've talked to both Thor and Little before and they were very nice. You never know if someone has had a bad day.

No pic of Hainsey? I'm guessing his hair was just too beautiful to properly capture on film. ;-) Slater looks pouty in his pic.
We only went through the line that included Mason and all the guys were so nice! I'll second what you say about judging attitudes based on one encounter: you never know what's going on in their personal lives, or if they're tired/sore/hungry, whatever.
The highlight for us was meeting Ramsay, who was very friendly.
I thought that Slater really looked like he didn't feel good. And, seeing him at intros tonite at season opener, I'm convinced. It was a great nite, overall, I thought. I think it was a great nite, and I agree with you, we all have a day where we just aren't up for it, granted we only ask this of them once a season, but still, you may sit down with them next day and hear their whole life history. Great blog, as usual, and great shots.
Eeeeek! Ben Eager!! and Buffs glasses are adorable.
I love your photos! Im sad you didnt get too see the moose either..he was such a sweetie to my friend and I here in Pitts. But you got my other two fav swedes..toby and johnny!
