Karpa Is A Star!
Kari Lehtonen has been traded to the Dallas Stars in return for prospect Ivan Vishnevskiy and a fourth round draft pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. I went looking for the last picture of Kari I took of him in a Thrashers uniform and funny enough, he was taking it off.
This is the last picture I took of him playing on the same night, April 11, 2009. Yep, that's the last time we've seen Karpa play.
Good thing I took pics of him the other day at practice, this was indeed the last time I saw him as a Thrasher.
Most seem to think we got quite a deal from Dallas. We got an up and coming defenseman for a goalie who has had a shaky history with us. Kari is a brilliantly talented goalie who can shine while sometimes seeing 40+ shots a night. Unfortunately he has the problem of being oft-injured. He's had repeated groin issues. This season he hasn't played a single game due to back surgeries. Rumors are (I stress rumors, I don't know the man and have no first hand knowledge of this) that his work ethic is not great and he shows up for camp in shitty shape.
This trade also throws some spice into the goalie situation in Dallas. Many fans and bloggers feel that Turco will be traded before the deadline.
I love most of my ex-Thrashers and Kari is no exception. I wish him the best in Dallas. I hope these back surgeries will be just what he needs and he can wow the western conference. Good Luck, Karpa!

This makes me so incredibly sad... I was really pretty close to tears when I found out. And I will definitely still love Kari too... DW... that's another story.
lol, people are talking as if he died. HES NOT DEAD, HES JUST A STAR. lol.
Kerry, I have to admit I've been shocked by a couple of comments I've seen on facebook. I agree, he's just on another team. I'm a bit sad, too. He's been our goalie for a while. I do wish him the best.
sad? yes. end of the world? no.
