Kovy Sold His Soul To The Devil, Lou Lamoriello Actually
So, Kovy is a Devil. I'm actually okay with that. The Devils are my 2nd favorite team. Even though Kovalchuk was offered one of the highest paid contracts in franchise and league history, he turned it down. So unless he plans on Tkachuking it, all of that "I want to be a Thrasher for life" stuff was crap. He along with former Devil, Anssi Salmela were traded to the Devils in exchange for Johnny Oduya, Niclas Bergfors, prospect Patrice Cormier and the Devils' first round draft pick.
The state of half of the people in Blueland is panic and rage.
People are calling for Waddell's head on a stake (which I'm usually fine with), tearing up season tickets and calling for the team to be moved. Really?? We've sucked for years WITH Kovy. He turned down one of the most lucrative deals in NHL history, what were they supposed to do. Two established players, a notorious prospect and a first round pick is a pretty good trade for a rental. Bergfors and Oduya are signed for another 2 to 3 years.
Farewell Kovy. Good luck in Jersey and may you sign again with us next season!

It pisses me off that I knew/thought that there would be another player going with Kovy. I 1st was hoping it wouldn't be Lehtonen, 2nd Salmela.
Oh,well I'll be watching more devils games now. :)
yeah. kovys an amazing player dont get me wrong but where did he get us? swept in the first round once. its unfortunate but he obviously didn't want to play here. its not waddells fault. it makes me sad tho. =[
I usually don't care for DW... but I can't blame him for this... he tried (I really think he did) and Kovy just wouldn't agree...
Really hoped LA would get him. You could have had Johnson and Frolov and a pick but Lombardi was offering Simmonds too and that was a big deal breaker for me.
I’m mailing my Kovalchuk jersey to Don Waddell, asking him what I should do with it.
I suggest other Kovalchuk jersey owners do the same. You can send your jersey to Mr. Waddell at:
101 Marietta St.
Suite 1900
Atlanta, GA
30303
Thanks for stopping by, but I gotta say, if you are mailing a $115-$200 jersey to Waddell, that's kind of stupid. Hell the Spirit will probably just take them and resell them in the team gear store. If you must, just take off the name plate and mail it to him. You can do that with an iron if it's heat embossed.
Remember, the name on the front of the jersey is more important than the one on the back.
Erica, I was hoping for a deal with the Kings myself. I think Kovy would have loved Cali and they had some nice talent. I would have loved to have gotten Simmonds! I'm not too upset about the current deal though.
I'm totally with you. I loved Kovy, but I think he was feeding us a line saying he wanted to be in Atlanta for life. Yeah, management has been poor in the past, but we can't blame them for this.
Did you see Max slam his stick on the bench after Zach ran into him? Seems like he's a bit upset as well. I was hoping they'd now offer Max a good contract but I'm afraid he won't want to stay now.
I'm happy with the guys they got, but still a bit nervous about what will happen the next few months.
