Craig Anderson
Wow. Craig Anderson = Wow. I usually don't give 2 shits about the Colorado Avalanche. I gave like 1/2 of a shit about them because my friend Candace's favorite player, Ian LaPerriere was there. I was excited for Craig Anderson when he got signed with the Avalanche. I was no huge fan of his, but I'm always pulling for a back up goalie who gets the chance to start for a club.
Andy has been unbelievable in Colorado this season. He has started all 13 games and has a 10-1-2 record, a .940 SV% and a 1.97 GAA. This is coming from a team that no one expected anything from. Most "experts" predicted the Avs would come in near the bottom of the league, they are tied for first place. Of course there is still A LOT (almost all) of the season left. The Avs are squirreling those points away though.
When Florida came through Blueland in the 2007-08 season, I got some good pics of Craig. I love this one, it's like goalie porn.
A little mini "Blueland Guest Goalie," Andy played his junior hockey for the Guelph Storm. He was drafted by the Blackhawks in 1999 but remained in Guelph until 2001. He spent the next 5 seasons splitting time between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Norfolk Admirals. Andy was traded to the Florida Panthers in 2006. He spent most of 2006-07 with the Rochester Americans but spent all of the next two seasons with Florida. He signed over the summer of 2009 with Colorado.
In 2007 Craig set NHL records for most shots while recording a shutout, he stopped 53 shots, and most saves in consecutive shut outs with 93 stopped shots. Craig keeps setting records with Colorado. He is only the second American netminder for the team. He set a franchise record on October 24th when he started his tenth consecutive game as a goalie to begin the season. The next day after defeating Detroit he passed Marc-Andre Fleury to be the leagues most winning goalie in the first 11 games of the season. He has also set a franchise record for the most wins of a goaltender in the month of October. Not too bad for a team that was supposed to go nowhere!
I hope Craig and the rest of the Avs can keep it up. The most games Craig has played in a season is 59 and that was back in Guelph. I would love to see him do well. Good luck Andy! You've piqued my interest and made me care about a team I really don't notice much.
