Focus on a Thrasher: Chris Thorburn
Prospect Camp is over so it's back to the weekly features. I'm a little late with this one, sorry!
This week's featured Thrashers is center, Chris Thorburn. Chris recently signed a multi-year contract with the Thrashers so hopefully he'll be around for a while.
Chris was born born June 3, 1983 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. June 3....that would have been good to know on the Habitat for Humanity build that fan club members and I did on (wait for it...wait for it) JUNE 3! FAN CLUB FAIL. Hung out with the man on his birthday and didn't know. We suck. Sorry Chris.
Chris began his road to the NHL by playing for several teams in the OHL. He began his OHL time in 1999 with the North Bay Centennials. In 2001, Thor was drafted in the second round (50th overall) by the Buffalo Sabres. He continued playing for the Centennials. Thor spent 3 seasons with the Centennials playing in 189 games. He scored 49 goals and 83 assists for a total of 132 points.

Chris split the 2002-03 between the Saginaw Spirit and the Plymouth Whalers. With the Spirit Chris played 37 games scoring 19 goals and 19 assists for 38 points. Thor finished the season with the Whalers playing 27 games and scoring 11 goals and 22 assists for a total of 33 points.
After his time with the OHL, Chris started the 2003 season with the Buffalo Sabres (then) AHL Affiliates, the Rochester Americans.
In his first AHL season, Thor played 58 games scoring 6 goals and 16 assists.
Thor played more games for the Americans in the 2004-05. In 73 games he scored 23 goals and 27 assists.
Although Thor played most of the 2005-06 for the Americans, he made his NHL debut on December 02, 2005 against San Jose. He played a total of 2 games for the Sabres that season. Thor was claimed off of waivers by Pittsburgh on October 3 and finished the season with their AHL team, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. He played 3 games for them.
In 2006-07 Thor made the jump to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Chris scored his first NHL goal and added an assist at Anaheim on November 11, 2006. He played 39 games and scored 3 goals and 2 assists.
Thor is no stranger to dropping the gloves, but sometimes he doesn't pick the best dance partners...Chara???? Artyukhin???
After one season with the Penguins, Thorburn was traded to the Atlanta Thrashers for a third-round pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
