In the Nest: Prospect Report
With the Thrashers on a long (horrible) road trip, I thought it was a good time to take a look at what our babies from the 2009 draft were up to.
Levko Koper LW (Spokane Chiefs WHL) - Levko is having a great season. He has played in 34 games, has 18 goals and 16 assists for a total of 34 points, a good point per game average so far. He is currently +13. He has had 2 hat tricks this season, one of which was a natural hat trick when the Chiefs destroyed the Chilliwack Bruins 7-1. Levko had an assist that night for a 4 point game. Levko was also named to the WHL team for the 2009 Subway Super Series. He scored 1 goal in his game against the Russian team.
Ed Pasquale G (Saginaw Spirit OHL) - Ed has minded the net in 27 games this season. His GAA is 3.59 and his SV% is .900. On November 27 Ed took the first star of the game when he stopped 53 of 55 shots from the Kingston Frontenacs. On December 17, Ed lead his team to victory over the rival Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and picked up 2nd star honors for himself by stopping 30 of 32 shots.
Cody Sol D (Saginaw Spirit OHL) - Cody has played in 30 games for the Spirit this season and has 4 goals and 5 assists. Back in October, Cody had a 3 point game. Though the Spirit lost to the Frontenacs in OT, Cody registered two goals and an assist.
Ben Chiarot D (Guelph Storm OHL) - Ben has played in 35 games with the Storm this season registering 11 points with 3 goals and 8 assists. The Storm were crippled by injuries and a particularly nasty flu outbreak. Even though he didn't have any flu shot, he managed to avoid illness.
Jimmy Bubnick RW (Kamloops Blazers WHL) - You can tell the Blazers are struggling when you look at Jimmy's numbers. When I was looking at his stats, I said "something must be up" so I went to check out more of the Blazers' numbers. The Blazers are currently in 4th place (next to last) in their B.C. Division of the WHL. They are 16-19-2 and have 37 points. Jimmy has played in 40 games and has a respectable 33 points with 14 goals and 19 assists. What got my attention was the fact he is a -13, even with those numbers. On one roster he's listed as a RW, on another a center. Maybe they have him playing different positions. I hope something shakes loose for the Blazers. Good luck guys!
Jordan Samuels-Thomas F( Bowling Green State University) - The Falcons have only played 19 games this season, but Jordan has played in all of them. He has 16 points, 7 goals and 9 assists. Jordan is the leading scorer for the Falcons and was named the CCHA Rookie of the Week back in November.
I saved these two superstars for last because they will battle each other today in the IIHF World U20 World Championships today. I of course want the US to win, but I adore Klingy so I hope he scores 10 goals and the US beats Sweden 11-10.
Jeremy Morin LW (Kitchener Rangers OHL) - There is a reason Jeremy was named to team USA, he's been tearing it up in the OHL. He has played in 32 games and has 44 points with 21 goals and 23 assists. Three is indeed a magic number for Jeremy, he is 3rd on his team for goals, assists and points. He scored a goal against Slovakia in the World Junior Championships. Go get em, Jeremy!
Carl Klingberg LW (Vastra Frolunda HC Goteborg) - known on this blog as "Klingy" I hate to show favoritism, but I do adore him. He has played in 31 games with the Indians and has put up 8 points with 4 goals and 4 assists. It's hard for me to get info on Klingy because most of it is in Swedish. Carl has also been successful at the World Junior Championships scoring a goal for Sweden against the Czech Republic.
