Thrashers Training Camp: Day 2
Day Two! Woot woot. What a fabulous week. The only thing that would make this week better is if I weren't unemployed!
We were late arriving for training camp and I was worried I'd miss my Moose, but not to worry, Team B went first. When we got there they were doing various drills.
Sorry Manny, you missed that one.
Kulda and Todd White getting ready to do some 1 on 1s.
Zach Bogosian(#4) firing some shots at Manny. Zach was doing the 1 on 1 with Todd White and went after Whitey like Whitey had burned his house down. Roughed him up, slammed him into the glass. This kid is so intense. I can't wait for the season to start.
Evander Kane and Colby trying to score on Manny.
Marty Reasoner and Kane waiting for the puck.
Bobo looking intimidating.
It's the time they all dread...skating mountains. For those that don't know what they are everyone a group of guys start at the goal line, the skate as fast as they can to the nearest blue line, then back...then to the middle then back....the next blue line then back...and finally all the way down and back. They are killers.
The guys get divided up into their groups.
Massage therapist to the Thrashers Inar is on the scene to record times. (Isn't he cold??)
Valabik and Toby Enstrom getting ready to skate the first set.
Even the goalies have to do it. I call this "turtle racing" because well, it looks like 2 turtles racing.
Manny and MacIntyre get ready for their turn.
Mountains are over and Toby and Boris look like they are going to puke.
Enstrom and Peverley did really well on the mountains. Boris couldn't get those big legs untangled quickly enough, but I've noticed definite improvements in his skating. Fritsche and Machacek did pretty good, too. I was disappointed in my new little favorite, Stapleton. He was way to slow to be that small. Colby looked like he was wincing a few times. Bogosian completely dusted everyone. He was skating like his soul depended on it. The goalies were of course a bit slower. By the final set, Manny looked like he was gonna die.
A nice shot of Drew's mask.
You can see the Care Bear on the back of his mask. He needs to add another baby bear as his wife recently had another baby.
Manny is the nicest guy ever I'm convinced.
There was a much smaller group today, but he was still mobbed. He posed with fans and signed things. He also stayed out talking to a goalie pad rep for about 15 minutes.
Time for some Team A action.
They had a mini-goalie clinic on my side of the ice. Sorry for the poor picture quality, my photo tech (a/k/a Mr. Sunshine) was trying some new settings.
Some passing drills.
Moose: Let me in goal, it's my turn.
Pavs: No
Moose: Come on, it's my turn.
Pavs: No
Moose: I'll just push the net off the moorings.
Weeks: Boys, does someone need a time out?
Popovic has looked really good in camp. He did a good job of standing tall with one of our biggest guys, Antropov.
Antropov stretching.
Sorry Pavs, you missed that one.
Taking some action to Pavs.
I think Pavs got that one.
Something I look forward to this season, Ilya and Antropov on the ice.
Ilya getting ready for the 1 on 1s.
Pavel Kubina. He drives a screaming yellow Hummer.
More drills
Oh no! They rolled the goalie!
Ain't no mountain high enough, baby! It's mountain time.
While they were getting ready for mountains, I went down by the goal to get a better shot of Moose and Pavs' new masks.
Yep, it's still Sponge Bob Moose pants. This side has Patrick Moose on it.
What could be on the back? Well duh, bubbles of course *shudder*
Pavs has high hopes this season. His new mask is totally Atlanta themed (as opposed to last season's mask that was split between Chicago and Atlanta). It has the Fox Theater on one side and a peach on the other.
Even though Moose had a slip and fall, Moose schooled Pavs hard. Moose is always reported to be the best conditioned athlete on the team and he really showed it.
Moose: I totally schooled your ass.
Pavs: *pant* *pant*
On Team A, of course Kovy did well on the mountains. Slater did pretty well, too.
Antropov signing some autographs for fans.
Another great day at the rink! I'll try to get my pictures from the prospect game up tonight because I have Day 3 of training camp plus the 2nd prospect game tomorrow!
