Pavelec's Redemption!
I had to miss the game yesterday, I went to Nashville. Of course it turns out to be an amazing game in which Pavelec is a GOD of the pipes and I'm reduced to watching highlights. But oh what great highlights they are!
A week ago we grimaced as Pavelec was humiliated by a 178 foot shot from Jeff Schultz that took a weird bounce and went in the net like Pavs wasn't even there. Of course the goals Pavs let in after that were like salt in the wound and he was pulled. His blunder made the front page of Yahoo news and led Puck Daddy to have a vote as to which was worse, his goal or Toskala's.
There was no sight of flukey goals and flustered Atlanta goalies last night, only a clinic in goal tending and accolades for Pavs! He was the #1 star on Puckdaddy, as he should be! Pavs made a mind blowing 50 saves. This game was pretty much the Ottawa Senators vs. Ondrej Pavelec. The Thrashers outshot the Senators in the first period 13 to 8, that would be the last time in the game that happened. In the second period the Sens outshot us 18 to 5 and in the third a staggering 25 shots to our 3. (UNACCEPTABLE!) Total shots were 51 to our 21.

We didn't play well at all, at times it felt like we were just standing around. (Pavelec) handed us the win, he was tremendous.
I should say so! The only time they managed to get a puck by Pavelec was on a 5 on 3 power play.
Pavs was also the first star on NHL.com.
Pavs actually got two mention on both nhl.com and Puckdaddy. One for his amazing play and the other for something that happened during the game. It couldn't have been more timely unless it were staged.
Late in the 2nd period with some chaos buzzing around his net Kubina's big ass knocks Pavs mask off and 50 years almost to the day that Jacque Pante donned his mask for the first time, Pavs was without his. Scary, but not unusual. Goalies get their masks knocked off. What is impressive though is that the refs were late with the whistle and Pavs actually had to make a save with no mask. Most of you know what a goalie nut I am so I don't even have to tell you how enraged I was when I watched him have to make that save. Had I not known he was okay, I would have been very nervous.
If you haven't seen that, you can see it here:
Puck Daddy was impressed.
So often goalies are the goat or the hero. Pavs was our hero tonight. You won that game for us, Pavs!
Be sure and check out this highlight reel where Pavs makes 5 consecutive saves.
